This reminds me a lot of the character called "5" from the movie "9". "5" was a student under the instruction of the similar-looking character, "2", an embodiment of an inventor with what is said to be that inventor's "creative spirit". However, this is not "5". Rather, I like to think that, looking at this piece, the film had an alternate direction in which the inventor succeeded in making himself into one of his burlap-and-stitches creations.
I LOVE the detail in this piece; obviously, the stitching is perhaps the most noticeable, but take a moment to examine the remainder of the piece: the grain in the wood, the beautiful and very careful attention to shadow, the way that knut shines. If this is a "9" tribute, it certainly looks like the inventor has successfully become one of his inventions, which is what seems to have been the drive for his creating the iconic characters seen in the film in the first place.
